We are a full-service auto shop with experienced technicians that can diagnose engine problems and recommend the proper course of action. You can count on us to repair your engine right the first time. Here are signs that your engine needs to be rebuilt or replaced.
Engine Exhaust
Rebuilding the engine often solves the problem of excess exhaust. If your tailpipe looks like a factory smokestack, the engine is hemorrhaging fluid. As such, the system in which the fluid is located may need to be rebuilt. If you are curious as to which fluid is leaking from your engine, take a look at the exhaust. Fuel creates black exhaust, coolant creates white exhaust, and oil creates blue exhaust.
Engine Knock
We can also repair a serious engine knock by rebuilding the cylinder block. Generally, the rod bearings need to be replaced because they have worn out. The part that is making the knocking sound is the pistons. If the rod bearings are worn, the rods will wiggle as they move the pistons up and down. Consequently, the pistons will make contact with the cylinder walls.
Metal in the Oil
Unfortunately, we cannot rebuild your engine if you have shavings of metal in the motor oil. In this case, we will have to replace the engine to solve the problem. The reason why is that the engine parts are disintegrating. Consequently, your vehicle needs a new engine.
Overheating
We can rebuild the engine if it is overheating all the time. This being said, the repairs may be extensive if the overheating is being caused by a blown head gasket or cracked engine block. The problem may also be the cooling system, which we can replace with a new one.
Power Loss
Finally, we cannot rebuild your engine if it no longer produces power. Unfortunately, this means that your engine is ready for retirement. There will come a point in time when the engine simply cannot produce any juice. Consequently, it is useless underneath the hood.
As we mentioned above, we have experienced technicians that can rebuild or replace your engine. If you are having any of the problems discussed in this blog post, call us to set up a service visit. To avoid damaging your engine further, tow your vehicle to our shop.
